Email - Using Select Group to Create Distribution Lists

Before proceeding, please be sure you have previously clicked the (HELP ?) Circle that leads to the narrative on "Overview and Basics: Using the Email & Texting Function". Being familiar with the general information about the "EMAIL & TEXTING" Screen may be helpful to you.

The following information relates specifically to using the "CHOOSE GROUP(S) TO SEND EMAIL" Function to find and select people for the "WHO GETS THIS EMAIL?" Window.

** Note: People using the Member Portal module will only be able to email Groups that your church's MemberLink system administrators have authorized. Typically, the email capability from the Member Portal module is reserved for leaders of Groups, and those leaders can only see and select their own groups. Administrators using the email system from the Administrator module may be able to see all the Groups and select any of them.

Using "Select Group" to Create Distribution Lists:

If you want to send a message to a specific group of people, one method of building the distribution list is to select that Group from a list of the Groups. These Groups will have been previously defined using the functions accessible on the "GROUPS" Screen when the "GROUPS" Tab is active on the Operations Bar .

To select the desired Group, use the "CHOOSE GROUP(S) TO SEND EMAIL" area of the screen. Select a Group from the list of choices by turning ON the Checkbox next to the Group name. Then click the [SELECT GROUP(S)] Button. This will place the members of the selected Group (if they have an email address) into the "WHO GETS THIS EMAIL?" Window.

You can send to all of the people shown in that Window, or uncheck the ones in that group you do not want to receive your message.

** Note: From the Administrator module, you can choose between Regular Groups, Family Groups, and Care Groups by clicking the appropriate "Radio Button". This will narrow or limit the Group choices in the "CHOOSE GROUP(S) TO SEND EMAIL" Window. Member Portal users will not have this option.
